Today I was thinking about how many times I’ve chosen to rise in my life.

How many times I’ve made the choice to get back up from the bottom, even when I wanted to give up. How many times I thought, “I can’t believe this has happened again. I’m not sure if I have it in me anymore. Or Why me?”

How many times I’ve trusted God’s voice and direction over my own. And how many times the journey up and to the other side was one of the hardest things I’ve done, yet the greatest blessing in my life.

I am not unique in this. We have all been given faith, inner strength, wisdom, and resilience. Sometimes we just forget we have it. Sometimes we need some help to get back up. Sometimes we need support to fight for ourselves, our lives and the blessings that are ours to receive.

This is one of my greatest passions, privileges and expertise’s: to support other women on their journey back up; so, they can rise, thrive and create more fulfilling lives.

October 30 was the 4th year anniversary of my Mom’s unexpected death. I was with her and we were having a normal Mother/Daughter conversation and 15 minutes later she was gone. That event rocked my core and knocked me down further than I can remember being in a long time.

I experienced complicated grief, PTSD and bouts of the “what if’s”, sadness and hopelessness. And to be honest, the climb up from those ashes and out of that darkness has been one of the toughest risings I’ve ever experienced in my life.

It was a rising that was so painful I could feel the brokenness of my heart. It was a rising that made me question everything that I believed to be true. It was a rising that brought up issues from the past I thought I had healed. It was a rising that burnt me out, stressed me out and knocked me out repeatedly.

Yet at the same time, it’s been a rising that has blessed my life. It’s reconnected me to my true self. It’s lovingly forced me to choose healthier beliefs. It’s realigned me with my soul’s purpose. It’s shown me new possibilities and deepened my connection to who and what matters most.

This journey has reminded me that there are always lessons and blessings when we have the courage rise again.

Here are three of my favorite lessons I’ve learned along the way.

I share them because I want to remind you that you do have the inner strength and wisdom to rise from any circumstance that life has thrown you. You are not alone if you are on your own journey of rising-up, rising through or rising into the person or place you feel called to next.

Sometimes we just need some encouragement and inspiration from others who have been there too. It’s my hope that my lessons and the blessings I received will show you what can be possible for you too.

Lesson # 1: You Can Rise To Be Your Own Hero

It’s so easy to get caught up in the belief that what was yesterday, must be today. But that’s a lie.

There may have been many things in our pasts that were true and factual at one time. My story from many yesterday’s ago included dysfunction, abuse, addiction, betrayal, financial hardship, emotional rock bottoms and more.

Yet those experiences are the very things that God used to empower me to rise, thrive, and create a triumphant and fulfilling life; and help other women to do the same.  I teach what I’ve lived in real life.

Throughout my journey, I’ve learned how to reinvent, redirect, redesign and realign myself and my life with the truth of who I was created to be.

Many of the greatest blessings I’ve received and the best parts of Me have come from overcoming the hardest things in my life.

I continuously choose to write new stories for my life and be the hero of them; empowered by the spirit of God who fuels me. And you can too!

You can choose to rise up and be the hero of your own life; by making one different choice, taking one different path, getting back up one more time or shifting one small thought.

Start by asking yourself what kind of story you are writing and how you can rise to be the hero of it.

You can’t guarantee the ending, but you can determine the choices, actions, attitudes, and beliefs you want to embody as you journey through chapters.

Lesson # 2: You Can Rise Above Your Clouds.

We all have clouds that block our view and prevent us from seeing clearly in our lives.

In the external world, clouds show up as “puffy” things in the sky that prevent us from seeing the sun or fog that prevents us from seeing the road right in front of us as we are driving.

In our internal worlds, clouds may look like confusion, self-doubt, fear, feelings of not being good enough, condemnation and comparison. You know the drill. The things that block us from the clarity, wisdom and answers we need to create our best lives.

And we have to rise above them to experience the sunshine and clarity we need to move forward and feel good again.

It always amazes me that when I rise above the clouds in my life and see things from a new perspective, I can find the answers I’ve been craving.

My clouds are the emotions, attitudes and beliefs that cloud my judgement and keep me in darkness. And they don’t go away by themselves. I have to choose to rise above them.

Here are some of the things I use to help me.

  • Prayer
  • Meditation
  • Affirmation
  • Reality Checks with people I trust
  • “Forced” imperfect action
  • Watching golden retriever puppy videos on you tube

Once I’m above the clouds, I can see clearly, hear clearly and know what I’m being led to do.

Lesson # 3: You Can Rise Into Your Best YOU.

I believe that we were all created to be the best versions of ourselves. We all have gifts, talents, passions, loving hearts, soul’s callings, and so much more.

Yet, we often keep ourselves small. We often have this subconscious belief that it’s selfish, self-centered and “wrong” to boldly blossom and thrive in the world.

Sometimes it’s because of our circumstances. Sometimes it’s because we’ve had to protect ourselves. Sometimes it’s because we think we’ll lose the people we love. Sometimes it’s because we were programed to be “less than.”

Regardless of the why, God has created us to thrive and rise into who we were meant to be.

We’ve just forgotten how because we’ve been knocked down, derailed or too busy managing life.

That’s why it’s important to remember that you get to choose YOU. You get to choose your truth, your thoughts, your clothes, your hobbies, your friends. You get to choose to add the things into your life that make you thrive and feel like “YOU.”

The journey up towards being your true YOU is one of the most powerful, joyful and rewarding experiences you can take.

Why not start today. Think about one small action you can take that would make you say “This is ME.”

I’ll share one of mine to get you started. One thing that always makes me feel like ME is wearing a cool belt with my jeans and boots. Seemingly insignificant to others but very powerful to me.

Think about this:

A tiny seed pushes its way up through the dirt to blossom into a beautiful flower. So, we can push our way up through the DIRT of our own lives to blossom into something beautiful too.

What kind of dirt do you have to push your way through to rise, thrive and blossom in your life?

Take some time to reflect on the obstacles that are keep you down. Make a list of some small actions you can take now to rise up, above or through whatever is blocking your path to a better life and a better you.

YOUR TURN……….

If you’re feeling up to it, I’d love to hear from YOU.

How do you rise when you’ve been knocked down, derailed or just feel like giving up?
